Polar bear (Ursus maritimus) on rock edge. Svalbard, Norway
In the Svalbard summer, the ice surrounding the islands is gone and so are the seals. Polar bears (ursus maritimus) stranded here have virtually no food source. The distance to swim to the floe edge (and the seals) is too far, so the bears must wait until the ice forms again. This image captures the delicate and precarious environment these magnificent animals live in, and the changing conditions. Svalbard, Norway
